Who is Stuart Young Wife? Is Trinidad and Tobago’s New Prime Minister Married?

With Keith Rowley officially stepping down as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago on March 17, 2025, all eyes have turned to his successor, Stuart Young. At 49 years old, Young is no stranger to politics or public service, but his appointment as Prime Minister has certainly stirred up interest about the man behind the title — and the family and upbringing that shaped him.

So, who is Stuart Young outside the Parliament chambers and press conferences? Let’s take a deeper look into his roots, his upbringing, and why those closest to him believe he’s destined to be a very “different” kind of leader.

A childhood steeped in love and tradition

Young may have spent most of his professional life in Port of Spain, but it’s Debe — nestled just outside the bustling urban centers — where his family’s heart still lies. His uncle, Rustum Hosein, paints a vivid picture of a mischievous yet kind-hearted boy who would regularly visit their concrete family home surrounded by canefields.

“He was always active,” Hosein, now 64, fondly recalls. Whether it was swimming, running, playing cricket, or catching guabine (a type of fish) in drains, young Stuart was constantly on the move. “We are a very knitted family. Every occasion, Stuart would be here,” Hosein says, emphasizing how deeply rooted family values were in their upbringing.

Despite coming from what Hosein calls a “not well-off” background, the family made do with what they had. “We worked hard. We didn’t have much, but we made it work,” he says, highlighting a work ethic that clearly stuck with Young through his rise in politics.

A bond that remains strong

Today, even as Stuart Young’s schedule has become packed with ministerial duties, his ties to Debe remain unbroken. According to Hosein, Young still visits when he can, including a recent family wedding in December 2024. He is even expected to return for Eid ul-Fitr celebrations on March 31.

Hosein chuckles as he remembers Young’s childhood antics: “He was mischievous — pinching or pulling at his cousins like any other kid. But always loving and caring.”

While many in Debe may not have openly known about their family connection to Young, Hosein says it wasn’t something they felt the need to advertise. “We humble. We don’t do the whole show-off thing,” he says. Yet, the pride in his voice is unmistakable.

Who are Stuart Young’s parents?

Stuart is the son of Priscilla Hosein-Young and Richard Young. His mother, Priscilla, hails from Debe, while his father, Richard, is a retired banker. Stuart grew up in Port of Spain but always maintained a close relationship with his southern roots. His grandmother, Hosein’s mother, often told him as a boy, “You would be a good lawyer inno. Yuh like to talk too much,” Hosein shares with a laugh.

It seems granny’s prophecy came true. Stuart Young went on to study law at the University of Nottingham in England before carving out a successful career as both a lawyer and a politician.

Does Stuart Young have a wife and kids?

As of 2025, Stuart Young remains unmarried and does not have children. Throughout his political career, he has kept his personal life relatively private, focusing instead on his work and his close relationship with his extended family. Hosein describes him as someone who is “always willing to assist in any way and doesn’t discriminate based on race, gender, or anything like that.”

A leader shaped by family and resilience

Hosein believes his nephew’s leadership style will stand apart from past prime ministers. “He will be totally different from all the others,” he insists. “His knowledge is wide, his exposure is wide, and he has the ability to lead this country.”

In a political landscape where criticism is par for the course, Young’s uncle remains confident in his nephew’s resilience. “In politics, people will always try to bring you down,” he says. “But Stuart has what it takes.”

Rowley’s remarks about Young’s heritage — joking about his “Chinee” roots from Lalbeharry Trace — may have caused a stir, but Hosein was quick to clarify that their family home is actually near SS Erin Road, not Lalbeharry Trace. “Keith probably don’t know the exact facts,” he said with a chuckle. “But he knows Stuart has family down here.”

Humble beginnings, high hopes

What’s clear is that Stuart Young’s story is one of hard work, family values, and quiet determination. From kite-flying and pitching marbles as a child in Debe to being labeled “the minister of everything” due to his broad portfolio, Young’s journey is rooted in the love and lessons of his family.

“We are very proud of him,” Hosein says with a warm smile. “And I pray for the best for him.”

As Young steps into the role of prime minister, many across Trinidad and Tobago will be watching — but few will be cheering louder than his tight-knit family in the south.
